Luthra brothers likely to be deported to Delhi tomorrow; Goa Police to secure custody

Gaurav and Saurabh Luthra, the purported co-owners of Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in North Goa’s Arpora where 25 people were killed in a fire tragedy on December 6, are expected to be brought back to India by next week.
According to a report citing government sources, the authorities in Thailand, where the Luthra brothers had fled, have initiated the process to deport them to India.
Gaurav and Saurabh had fled to Phuket in Thailand hours after the fire at their nightclub killed 25 people, including staff and tourists.
According to Goa police, the Luthra brothers had booked a flight ticket to Phuket just 1.5 hours after the fire broke out.
Following the fire tragedy, the police had registered an FIR against the Luthra brothers and some other persons under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Earlier on Thursday, Gaurav and Saurabh Luthra were detained in Thailand’s Phuket after the Ministry of External Affairs suspended their passports.
The Luthra brothers had also moved a transit anticipatory bail before a Delhi court but the same was denied.
The duo had argued that they were merely the licence holders and not the building’s owners. They also claimed that their Thailand visit was for a business meeting, alleging they were not evading investigators.
As the investigation into the fire tragedy continues, the original owner of the land where ‘Birch by Romeo Lane’ nightclub stood, Pradeep Ghadi Amonkar claimed that he is fighting a court case against the Luthra brothers.
He alleged that the Luthra brothers has been wrongfully occupying his land. Amonkar also claimed that government officials quietly changed the zoning of his saltpan land for the club’s benefit.
